• Crowns and partial crowns – what is the difference?

  Whether we decide on a crown or a partial crown will depend on the size of the area that needs to be reconstructed. With small cavities, an inlay is used, a piece of ceramic material that fits precisely into the hole that has arisen. A partial crown is used if a larger section of the tooth needs to be restored. With a crown, on the other hand, the entire tooth is reconstructed, except for the roots. Once the tooth has been successfully treated – by removing all traces of caries – an inlay will be inserted, or a crown or partial crown will be placed over the tooth. Thanks to the Cerec 3D technology that we use in our practice, this can usually be done during the same appointment!

• The advantages of using Cerec 3D to produce crowns.

  Cerec 3D technology is a method which allows components for perfectly matching tooth restoration to be produced very quickly. A photo is taken of the affected tooth after treatment. Using this photo, a virtual new tooth is then created on the computer screen. In the next step, the data from this desired result is forwarded to a special milling and grinding machine that very quickly carves outs a perfect model of the computer template from a block of tooth-coloured ceramic. Crowns and partial crowns can therefore be produced within a few minutes and can be inserted straight away. They fit perfectly and look completely natural, and you will be able to eat and drink as normal as soon as you leave the dental practice.
